Sophie is a final year Law and Arts (Major in Politics and Policy, Minor in History) student at Deakin University, Burwood. After completing an internship at Canny Legal in 2024, she started working in the legal team part-time as a Paralegal while finishing her studies. She hopes to graduate in 2025, complete her Practical Legal Training, and get admitted to practise as a Lawyer in 2026.
She was raised in Hamilton, Victoria and finished her schooling at Ballarat Clarendon College in 2018. Sophie spent a gap-year working back home at Southern Grampians Shire Council while completing a Certificate III in Business Administration. She is passionate about regional Victoria and the unique challenges it brings.
During her first and second years of study, she worked as a Legal Administrative Assistant for O’Keeffe Schroeder Lawyers in Hamilton. This is where she found her interest in family law. She loves that no two days are the same and likes the idea of working with people directly. At Canny she assists the legal team with administrative tasks and helps draft documents. Sophie prides herself on her friendly but professional manner and is described by the team as inquisitive and efficient. Upon being admitted to practise, she wants to help guide clients through the legal system by utilising clear communication and a calm demeanour.
Sophie has served on the Deakin Law Student’s Society as a Communications Officer, helping produce a number of publications. She enjoys writing and developing her book collection (occasionally reading them too!). Anybody who knows Sophie knows her love for baking and her infamous chocolate chip cookies. She is a rugby union fanatic and loves spending time outdoors.
